Discovery of the Hunters
During the search for Soviet submarine M-96 in the Gulf of Finland, the expedition «Tribute to the Ships of the Great Victory» and Marine Engineering Company «Fertoing» discovered four German vessels from the 12th Submarine Hunter Flotilla. In 1942, this unit guarded the Seeigel mine barrage — a key link in the naval blockade of Leningrad. All four rest between Gogland and Maly Tyuters islands.
Detailed Information
UJ-1211 (Rau X), sunk August 7, 1941, and UJ-1204 (Böhmen), sunk October 26, 1941, lie at ~70m in Soviet minefield 19-A coordinates laid by minelayer Ural and destroyer Kalinin. Both have identical damage: bows torn off. 22 died on UJ1211, 45 on UJ1204. Their discovery disproved the theory they hit their own drifting mines.
